Protect the Chassis from the Rust -Use Your Truck for Longer-
How do you maintain your truck regularly? Everyday maintenance is necessary for keeping your truck in good condition and for using the truck for longer time.
One of the attention points is the rust of the chassis. The chassis is the important part for a truck so if it is too rusty and has corrosion, you cannot use it anymore as it cannot bear the cargo weight and may be broken.
Why does the chassis get rusty?
When you buy a brand new truck, its chassis is coated with the rust inhibitor in order to protect the chassis from getting rusty.
However, if you use the truck for many years, the rust inhibitor coating will be peeled off, or the truck body will get the damage due to the weight of cargo, and the coated iron plate will be exposed.
The moisture will stick to that plate, react with the oxygen in the air, and cause iron oxide. In fact, this “iron oxide” is the one called “rust”.
Which part of truck gets the rust easily?
This should be mostly “cargo bed” and “undercarriage (mostly chassis)”. If the chassis get much rust, you may not be able to drive safely.
Even though the rust and corrosion are very small, it processes larger at an accelerated pace, and have a hole at the last.
How We Can Avoid Rusty Chassis
It is inevitable to get rusty because the car body is worn out.
However, it is also possible to minimize the damage of rust by removing the rust quickly if it has occurred etc.
Here are some ways to minimize rust damage.
1) If get rusty, remove it with chemical products or by professional
It is recommended to remove the rust as soon as possible in case of rust.
Goods for removing rust are now on the market, and each product has different usage. Read the instruction manual and use it correctly.
* If it is difficult to remove the rust by yourself, it would be better to request to the professional.
2) “Coating” and “Cleaning”
Rust on trucks is caused by oxygen reacting with moisture adhering to exposed metal parts.
For this reason, the metal surface is not exposed by periodically coating with a rust-preventing material that prevents reaction with oxygen, or by placing a rust-proof mat on the carrier.
In cleaning, it is important to prevent the progress of corrosion, especially by removing dirt such as snow melting agent and mud around the suspension.
At this time, it is often washed with water using a high-pressure washer, etc., but if moisture remains after washing, it will rust eventually in response to moisture when salt or mud is dropped. After cleaning, it is important to dry that part not to remain the moisture by using an air blower.
3) Early Detection of Rust
Usually the chassis is black, but some trucks have red chassis. Long ago, the inhibitor colored red was often used (mostly for dump trucks), but it was no longer used because it affected the health. Now is also used red colored one without harmful chemical, which makes users easy to find dirt, rust, and oil leak. To find them at an early stage, you can prevent the worst condition.
After you buy the trucks, try above tips to keep them in good condition!
