What Does Your Check Engine Light Mean?
When your trucks check engine light turns on, it might give you a headache. Because in many cases, it means you need to visit the repair shop and probably speed a lot of money.
◎5 reasons why your check engine light turns on.
The check engine light — more formally known as the malfunction indicator lamp — is a signal from the car's engine computer that something is wrong. We don’t know where the problem is just by looking at the lamp, so let’s see some possible cases.
1. O2 Sensor Defective
If the O2 sensor, which measures the oxygen concentration is defective, the check engine light will turn on. Not only will the fuel cost increase, but harmful substances in the gas emitted by the truck will increase, so you’d better repair the truck.
2. Ignition Sensor Defective
The sensor that checks engine ignition is called Ignition Sensor. If the engine ignition does not go well, the check engine light will turn on, it just means the ignition timing is slightly slow, so it may not be a serious issue.
3. Battery Sensor Defective
The sensor that checks the operation of the battery is called Battery Sensor. In some cases, the battery sensor is malfunctioning, and in other cases, it lights up with a warning that the battery should be replaced. Let's check the situation as soon as it lights up.
4. Accelerator Position Sensor Defective
The sensor that measures the acceleration is called the Accelerator Position Sensor. If there is something wrong with the accelerator position sensor, it will lead to problems such as shifting and rotation speed. It is not a good idea to continue driving and you should take the truck to the repair shop for inspection.
5. Cam Position Sensor or Crank Position Sensor Defective
The sensors that measure camshaft position and crankshaft position. If the position of camshaft or crankshaft shifts, the check engine light will turn on.
◎What to do if the check engine light turns on?
Don’t be panic! Just because the check engine light turns on, doesn’t mean you will get in trouble immediately. Check your dashboard gauges and lights for indications of low oil pressure or overheating. These conditions mean you should pull over and shut off the engine as soon as you can find a safe place to do so.
Don’t let it go! Even though you don’t need to be panic, you should find where the problem is. It’s very dangerous driving with a check engine light on. Go to the repair store but not judge by yourself is a good choice.
