5 things I love about “Used” trucks / machinery / spare parts
If you hear words like “Used” or “second-hand”, how does it make you feel? Some may think it sounds shabby, but for others, it may sound very attractive, imagining a fancy vintage tea cup that you find in a flea market in Paris.
Well, honestly, I used to be the former; always preferred clean, brand new stuff, but after years of my experience dealing with used trucks / machinery / spare parts, my thought has now completely changed.
I have found so many good things about “used“ stuffs other than its price. This is completely my personal preference, but let me introduce 5 things I love about “Used” trucks / machinery / spare parts!
It’s a destiny to meet ONE OF A KIND!
As many of used-lovers probably agree that the biggest reason why they love “used” stuff, is because it is one and only.
There is nothing else in the world which is exactly same as the one. Used trucks wise, they are all used by different people, different situations, different purpose etc., which makes the one very unique.
It sometimes may be difficult to find a truck with your ideal body type, make, model, condition or price range, however, once you find a perfect vehicle from thousands of different selections, you will know what I mean.
If the time come, then go for it! Don’t miss the great opportunity.

Feel a story behind it
Did you know all brand-new trucks come as cab chassis? The truck maker does not manufacture truck body.
Those cab chassis trucks will be transported to a body company and be attached a body specially made for that truck. Every truck body is customized depending on what they carry, where they are used, or who drives it.
It is not only body that we can customize, the truck itself has also some different variations. These days, as most of the passenger vehicle has automatic transmissions in Japan, young people tend to get driver’s licenses limited to automatic transmission vehicles in the first place.
What really hit by this, is the courier companies; not enough driver who drives manual transmission vehicle. To prevent the shortage of drivers, they are positively applying trucks with semi-automatic / automatic transmission so that anyone can drive the truck as long as they have a driver’s license.
Transmission types, cabin types, bodies, chassis length etc… by multiplying them, infinite kind of trucks can be made. Each truck is different and has a reason to be how they are.
Environmentally friendly
“Environmentally friendly” is a keyword which became very popular during past few decades. Ironically, many Hollywood celebrities are now eager for planting, reusing, or something that is considered “good for earth/environment” despite of the numerous number of unworn shoes in their closets.
Speaking of Japanese trucks, I consider they are one of the most “environmentally friendly” products in the world.
After they have used for decade years in Japan, some of them are used again in Japan, and some other are exported and used in different countries, supported by the huge demand for high quality Japanese used vehicles.
Great things about trucks or vehicles, are that they are composed by thousands of small parts.
For example, engine is not just a single part, it is built up by so many small parts like shaft, fan, hose etc. Therefore, even if any defective condition has been found on an engine, the engine can be dismantled into small parts and fine pieces can be reused again as “used parts”.
In the world of trucks/vehicles, sometimes it goes far beyond second hand. Third, fourth or fifth hand is not what we should be surprised from.
Find out of production models
This is a strong advantages of used spare parts, I guess.
As I talked earlier, Japanese vehicles are usually reused again and again. So after they are used for decades and when it needs to be repaired, some of their genuine parts can be out of production. However, there is a chance you can find a used one. It is good to look for used ones too as another option.
Accessible at anytime
Last year in Japan, there was a huge shortage of brand new reefer van body for trucks. This “reefer van crisis” was occurred due to the huge demand of reefer van in Japan compared to its manufacturing capacity. During that time, it is said we have to wait about for 1 year to receive the reefer van from its order.
However, not all the people can wait for 1 year to complete their brand-new reefer van.
Some people have emergency work and need the truck as soon as possible. What became popular then is used trucks with reefer van body. If they are not too particular, it is not difficult to find an alternative from used selection.
Used stuff may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but there are also many advantages. Applying the used stuffs accordingly and wisely in your life will enrich your life even more!
