Suddenly, there was this fake news saying, “Shortage of toilet paper because all the materials come from China and now China is almost closed by the Coronavirus!” Everyone panicked in Japan and start buying as much toilet papers as possible. Then they were gone for about 2 weeks from everywhere in Japan.

Right after this fake news had spread, many toilet paper makers announced that they have enough stocks, and some supermarkets performed that “each family can only get 10 packs” with thousands of toilet paper rolls. This made people to realize it was only fake news. But do you know who got affected the most by this kind of rumor? Yes, transportation companies, especially truck drivers.

Truck drivers know how much stock makers have in their warehouses, and the drivers sent out messages and posts on SNS saying, “so many stocks everywhere in the warehouse”. “so much recycle papers, enough toilet papers”. They sent out those messages because those Fake News will make their job busier, as there will be more demand for the delivery. This demand is not in good way, making so much hustle on the logistics in Japan. 90% of transportation in Japan is done by trucks, however, due to the pre-determined transport routes and, above all, the shortage of truck drivers, these rumors can cause significant disruption to the truck logistics industry.

What I learnt from this was do not believe any news except the source is reliable, such as national newspaper or broadcasting company. Otherwise I check the news online before I talk to anyone else. Nowadays, you can get so many information from the internet and don’t know what to believe. But I believe what I see, and what I search.
