Philconstruct Manila in January

What is Philconstruct?

Philconstruct is the biggest construction show in the Philippines and this year, Philconstruct Manila was held from 6th to 9th January, 2018 at the World Trade Center and SMX Convention Center Manila with more than 100 brands from 23 countries participating to join the 28th PHILCONSTRUCT.

Main participants in SMX Convention Center are such as commercial air conditioning systems, elevators, advanced technology in the industry, energy saving, materials and trend design etc. And the World Trade Center is mainly for construction machines and equipment for construction works.

There is also outside display area in the World Trade Center and many construction machines and Trucks were displayed.

Due to the Philippine’s construction boom, the demand for construction machines is increasing rapidly and the markets are moving from Used machines to brand new one.

For your information, two other Philconstruct shows are also scheduled in Cebu (June 7 to 9) and Davao (September 7 to 9) in 2018.

We visited Philconstruct Manila this January.

Every year, we visit Philconstruct Cebu and Manila to understand the market trend and needs as well as seeking market chance in the Philippines.

This year, the show was even bigger than last year and lots of participants were joined it, and I noticed that Chinese brands are expanding their business aggressively and a lot of their products are almost a half of the price in comparison to Japanese brands.

As long as I know, many buyers are prioritizing the price when it comes to purchase brand new machines and equipment. As I am in charge of construction machines sales, I am very curious about the quality and durability of those Chinese machines….

Why Japanese Brands are still so popular despite the high price?

I can strongly say that Japanese brands are very durable and qualities are excellent. As I traveled the Philippines to study used excavator markets, I saw many of very old excavators which were even over 30 years old! And they were still in use.

Nowadays, quality of Japanese excavators is noticeably better and the level of fuel consumption has been remarkably improving that you cannot compare to old machines.

For example, brand new Yanmar excavators have “Eco Mode”. This makes you possible to reduce the fuel cost! For example the standard mode uses 40 liters of fuel per day. How about switching to Eco Mode? Let’s calculate how much Eco Mode can save ⇒ Eco Mode can save 10% of fuel per day!

Also Mini Excavators with Zero Tail Swing are very practical for small and narrow construction work areas as their upper body doesn’t extend beyond the tracks when it is turned.
