Used Japanese car in Bangladesh
Now Bangladesh is one of the biggest used car importers from Japan. It is reported that more than 22,000 vehicles have exported from Japan to Bangladesh in the year of 2019 in total. Today, we will be introducing bits and bobs about used car market in the fast-growing country, Bangladesh.

Overview of used car import regulation in Bangladesh
1)No specific regulation on the car model, vehicle weight or engine displacement
2)Cars to be imported must be less than 5 years old
*Construction machines such as dump trucks can be imported even if it is over 5 years old, however, durable life has to be more than 10 years old.
3) Only right-hand vehicle is allowed to be imported
4) Exhaust gas: Discharge of Black smoke, Carbon Monoxide, Hydrocarbon or Nitrogen Oxide are restricted by Environmental Protection Law.
5) The vehicle has to be imported directly from the country of origin without going through third countries.
6) Seatbelts have to be installed
7) Windshield and both sides of front side grasses have to be transparent.
Shipping method
RORO/Conventional vessel shipment is a major way of exporting used cars from Japan to Chittagong, Bangladesh.
Multiple shipping lines have regular lines stops at Chittagong, with the frequency of 1-2 vessels per month. It will take about 4 to 7 weeks for a vessel to reach Chittagong after it departs from a port in Japan.
Payment method
Due to the regulation of Bangladesh government, you can only pay the bill by L/C (Letter of Credit). We, Yamada Sharyo Co., Ltd., accept payments also by L/C for the customers in Bangladesh, so please do not worry about the payment method!
Import License
Import license is required when you import vehicles to Bangladesh.
Import Duty and other taxes
1.Import duty
Tractors (HS8701): CKD(Complete Knock Down)5%, CBU(Complete Built-Up)1%
Buses (HS8702, for above 10 passengers): 5%, 10% or 25%
Passenger cars (HS8703): 25%(Ambulance cars: 5%)
Trucks (HS8704): 1%, 5%, 10% or 25%
Specials (HS8705): Ambulance cars, Crane trucks, Drilling Derrick trucks and Fire trucks 5%, Concrete mixer 10%
2.Other taxes
Regulatory Duty (RD): 5%
Supplementary Duty: SD: 20% - 500%
Value Added Tax (VAT): 15%
Advanced Income Tax (AIT): 5%
Advanced Trade VAT: 4%
