All about HINO truck
Hino trucks is one of the biggest and evaluated truck makers in Japan; In fact, they have been marked as a market top share of medium to large size trucks in Japan for the past 46 years. After their recent dedicated promotion and replete customer services for small trucks, their small truck range, Dutro is titled as the best-selling 2 ton truck for the past 5 years in Japan.
At the point of 2007, their sales to Japanese domestic market has surpassed by the sales to overseas, which now grew up even to 70% of their total sales. HINO now places their sales dealers in more than 90 countries in the world. Especially, they won top shares in the countries such as Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Peru.
In 2003, the number of their global sales for hybrid trucks and buses has reached 10 thousand units for the first time ever in the world. There is no surprise that Hino has been ranked in top 10 of world “large size truck manufacturers” every year.

Now moving onto their product range, Hino trucks is categorized into 3 models according to its loading capacity. Let’s see how each model is like!
DUTRO
Dutro is Hino’s small truck (2 ton). As you may already know, Toyota Dyna is the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) brand of HINO Dutro and all the Toyota Dyna is manufactured in HINO manufacturing factories.
Model code: XZU341, XZU411 etc.
Engine models: S05C, S05D, N04C etc.
RANGER
Ranger is Hino’s 4 ton type. Ranger has standard cabin and wide cabin, also with bed and without bed, so you can pick and choose according to your usage of the truck.
Model code: FC1J, FD1J, FD2J etc.
Engine models: J08C, J08E, H07C etc.
PROFIA / GRAND PROFIA
Profia is their 10 ton range of HINO truck. It has 8 wheeler, 10 wheeler and 12 wheeler types, although the most popular / basic one is 10 wheeler. HINO tractor head is often called as prime mover and used in many countries.
Model code: FR1K, FW1E, FN2P etc.
Engine models: K13C, F21C, F17D etc.
Now in Japan, used trucks in the market is already shifting from Profia to their newer 10 ton series: Grand Profia.

Function of Hino Proshift Transmission
Proshift is one of the semi-automatic transmissions which was invented to simplify the gear change operation for truck drivers. Drivers are not required operate the clutch, which means there are only two pedals: an axel pedal and a brake pedal. The advantage of Proshift transmission is that they can minimalize the power transmission loss compared to the automatic transmission. Therefore, Proshift is considered to have a higher fuel efficiency.
The relationship with Toyota and Isuzu
HINO was affiliated with Toyota Group in 1965, and then became subsidiary of them after Toyota acquired majority of stakes. For the purpose of rationalization, the bus department of HINO has integrated the management with Isuzu motors limited. Isuzu is the mother company of HINO as well as having capital alliance with Toyota Group.
