It’s all about MITSUBISHI FUSO CANTER!
Past a few years has been rough years for Mitsubishi Motors Corp. After the emission-cheating scandal has been revealed, Mizushima, where their major mini car factory is located, became as quiet as never before. As one of their neighbors in Mizushima, we, Yamada Sharyo, felt how Mizushima was less energetic during their absence of 2 and a half month.
Although Mitsubishi passenger vehicles have been struggling for their sales, Mitsubishi trucks maintained high demand in many countries. This time, as a first feature of MITSUBISHI FUSO trucks, I will summarize useful information about their 2ton range; CANTER trucks, by a used truck exporter’s point of view.

Their major 4 models, FE, FG, FB, FD
Canter model code are composed with alphabets and numbers like FE517BD-xxxxxx.
What are the very first 2 alphabets mean?
FE: Canter 2WD (No.1 popular & best known for)
FG: Canter 4WD
FB: Canter Guts* 2WD
FD: Canter Guts 4WD

How can I check if they have standard or wide cabin by their model code?
To see if the cabin is standard type of wide type, you may check the 3rd letter (First number) from the very first. If it is odd number like 3,5,7, it means it has a standard cabin, and as you guessed, it has wide cabin if the number is even like 4,6,8.
Ex. FE637= Wide cabin, FE517= Standard cabin

When you decide which truck is the most suitable for your use, perfect body length can be one of the absolute conditions you do not want to miss. Did you know, you can guess how long the canter wheel base is by their model code, even if you do not have an actual vehicle measurement? You can see it from the 6th letter of the model code.
Here is the quick chart;
Ex. FE638E= wheel base is 3,350mm
What kind of engine do they have?
Canter engines can also be guessed by its model code. Check the 5th letter of the model code.

We don’t carry Mitsubishi canter body full of cargos, but Suzuki Carry or Daihatsu Hijet is too small.
Well, there is something perfectly in between! It is called CANTER GUTS. They are 1.2 to 1.5 tonnage truck by Mitsubishi Fuso. If you don’t have too much cargo, choosing smaller size vehicle can be a good option to minimize your expenses.
