2018 Truck World Cup!

2018 FIFA World Cup Russia has finally started from June 12th, and many football / soccer fans like me have been spending busy days for catching up all the games which are held every day. Just like there are many outstanding star players in each national team, there are also star truck makers all over the world.

Let’s see who are the Ronaldo or Messi in the truck industry!

Group A -DAIMLER (Germany)

Although Germany tragically had to leave the 2018 World Cup way earlier than expected, the country is one of the top candidates for the champion in terms of manufacturing trucks. Daimler AG is the largest truck manufacturer in the world, and had sold 2.9million trucks in 2015. Daimler also hold large shares in Japanese Truck maker Mitsubishi Fuso now, and is gaining more truck market share of Asia with the Mitsubishi Fuso truck brand which already had a large market share in those regions.

In December 2007, Mitsubishi Fuso had announced that they pull out of engine developments by themselves to follow the policy of Daimler. Daimler also has shares of many automobile companies in the world and those companies are trying hard to maintain the high market share of Daimler trucks and its profit. This dedicated team work is similar to how Germany national players behave at the football field to represent their strong “team play“.

Group B -FAW (China)

Unfortunately, China national football team couldn’t manage to participate in the FIFA World Cup this time, however, the country has some of leading players in truck industry. One of them is China FAW Group Co., Ltd., and it was established in 1953 as the very first Chinese automobile company.

The company is known for one of the “Big 4” Chinese automobile manufactures alongside Changan Automobile, Dongfeng Motor, and SAIC Motor. Since only a few years after their establishment, FAW has always been positive for exporting their vehicles to many countries and they have now customers in more than 80 countries including Egypt, Iraq, Kenya and Mexico.

Group C -VOLVO (Sweden)

Just like Swedish football players make the most of their massive bodies in their games, one of the Swedish truck makers gained large market share in the world with their heave-duty trucks. The manufacturer is the famous VOLVO and now the company marks No.2 share of heavy-duty trucks. 90% of the trucks they manufacture is heavy trucks with over 16 tonnages.

One of their greatest achievement is their contribution on increasing safety of all the motor vehicles, followed by its founder’s spirit.
“Cars are driven by people. The guiding principle behind everything we make at Volvo, therefore, is and must remain safety.”
— Assar Gabrielsson and Gustav Larson 1927

Group D -ISUZU (Japan)

Against everyone’s expectations, Japan (FIFA Rank 61st) has beat Colombia (FIFA Rank 16th) at their first match in 2018 World Cup. The news has amazed all the soccer fans in the world, and I was one of them.

Just like Japan national football team, the market share of Japanese truck maker ISUZU isn’t ranked as the highest compared to other world-famous makers, however, there is still a high demand with their trustful quality. Especially, they get good reputations on their high-quality engines with good performance.

How much can Japan team proceed in 2018 World Cup? As a Japanese, I hope to see their engines keep performing well!

There are many truck makers in the world with different characters as each national football team has different play styles. Which maker do you think is worth gaining the champion cup of truck World Cup?
